County Motor Works is a part run family business, with a long established history in Chelmsford. The company was founded in 1908 by the Austin family, and continues to be owned by members of the family today, with Peter Austin as chairman.
In 1919 County Motor Works was granted a franchise by General Motors to sell their range of Buick Cars, and have held a GM franchise, which includes Bedford Trucks, without a break since that year, currently with Vauxhall.
In 1976, the company acquired and redeveloped the present site at Eastern Approach, Springfield, Chelmsford. 1993 saw another redevelopment to incorporate a MasterFit operation which consisted of four bays.
In September 1996 County Motor Works acquired the adjoining site in an essential step towards expanding the business, and in 2001 this part of the site was redeveloped to incorporate Fiat and Alfa Romeo franchises under the trading name AMC (Chelmsford) Ltd.
It is this family influence and history that has helped to shape the way we work. It has helped to develop our customer first approach, we know that the emphasis we place on customer care is key to our continued success.
